Next-generation transcatheter aortic valves. An opportunity to expand therapeutic indications?

چکیده
Interventional cardiologists have spent years working on and dreaming about transcatheter aortic valve implantation. In 20072008 we were privileged in Spain to use 2 of the most commonly-implanted devices at the time: the Cribier-Edwards aortic valve prosthesis and the CoreValve self-expanding prosthesis. These devices had successful initial results in highsurgical-risk patients with severe aortic stenosis. However, it soon became apparent that the devices had a number of limitations preventing their use in all patients with severe aortic stenosis. Furthermore, the implantation procedure sometimes led to complications and suboptimal results. After this initial experience, interventional cardiologists have now identified some areas where they would like to see technical improvements:

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: A Review Article
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a novel therapeutic intervention for the replacement of severely stenotic aortic valves in high-risk patients for standard surgical procedures. Since the initial PARTNER trial results, use of TAVR has been on the rise each year. New delivery methods and different valves have been developed and modified in order to promote the minimally invasive p...

During the past decades, the only effective treatment option for severe, symptomatic, aortic valve stenosis was surgical aortic valve replacement. More than 10 years ago, Alain Cribier performed the first transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Since 2007, CE-mark certified aortic valves are available for TAVI. This new technology rapidly achieved a very high clinical acceptance as a tr...

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a novel, disruptive technology that is revolutionizing the management of patients with aortic stenosis (AS). The landmark Placement of Aortic Transcatheter Valves (PARTNER) trial demonstrated that in patients with symptomatic severe AS who are not suitable for surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR), TAVR significantly reduced the rates of death...
متن کاملTranscatheter Aortic Valve Implantation: Review of Current Indications, Approaches, Future Insights, and Alternatives
The use of transcatheter aortic valve implantation is increasing worldwide, with rapid development of new generations of valves and the search for alternative access for implantation. The aim of this review is to summarise current approaches and indications, and to discuss some of the controversies surrounding
